HiRiZ at the Kava Festival

It was a beautiful day in Manoa.  The sun shining, and people getting their Awa mixed and ready to serve.   There was a wide variety of choices for you Awa connoisseurs who do not know about this event.  From Fiji to Tonga, Vanuatu to Moloka’i, you could almost taste the whole Polynesian triangle.

The event was well planned with many Awa, food, and plant venders.  HiRiZ started out the day with some reggae rock that shook up those tired and still asleep students.  We were followed up by  chill acoustics acts.  I was wondering what those musicians were thinking when we were playing.  Full bands are usually after the acoustic acts, but oh well.  Everyone was super chill and of course the Awa was flowing.

There were other activities going on at this time.  If you like poi, had the sovereign braddahs in malo and lawa lawa pounding the lo’i how we used to do from the beginning.  Big ups to those kane who run the native attire in public!  Down the walkway there were some lomi tents set up which I wish I could have got one.  There was also some raffles and contests going on throughout the day.  You could win plants and free Kawa.

Mahalo to alll the friends and family that showed support.  I know we made some fans today.  Mahalo to the sound man and to Mike, the master of ceremonies.   Check out Pu’u O Hoku Ranch products if you get a chance.  Steve’s family has some awesome Awa and their bowl is wicked!  Support local vendors and keep the Aloha and Hawaiian spirit alive.  Until tomorrows gig….. A Hui Ho!
