First Friday In Wailuku Maui

June 3rd 2011 HiRiZ showed up to the Wailuku First Friday on Market street.  After an early morning flight and meeting the “Deadliest Catch” crew, we made it to Market street with axe and drum in hand hoping it wouldn’t rain.  We left O’ahu and it’s storm to play at a venue that had no tent for the sound equipment and musicians.  Excitement filled the street when we were sound checking.  Many looked on an applauded after our sound check.  Nerves were flowing because we were actually opening up for Maui’s own Ekolu.  Many came to watch our set since Ka’imi grew up in Maui.

I just want to say mahalo to all my friends that came out to watch us.  It was also humbling to see many of  my old friends that I haven’t seen since grade school.

Our set went smoothly.  No rain and more and more people poured into the street.  Supposedly, this was the most people that have showed up compared to earlier Fridays.  We had a good feeling from the crowd.  We knew that they enjoyed our music.  As the day light dimmed, we finished our set with one of our favorites, Foxy Lady from Jimi Hendrix.  That song always blows people’s mind.  The reason, unexpected from a band like us.  We finished strong and now Ekolu was up next.

Ekolu killed it as always.  We stuck around for their whole set.  People thought we were the security because we stood right behind them.  In actuallity, we were watching our’s and Ekolu’s stuff.  There was no security and people surrounded the stage.  All and all, it was a bad @$$ event!

We want to thank the Taketani’s for hooking us up with gig. Thanks to MauiThing for the t-shirts.  Mahalo to the Brede Ohana for helping us promote our shows and taking some pictures for us.  Much mahalo to Joel for some radio shout outs!  Thanks Solid Clothing for the support!  We also want to thank the friends and long lost family that came to our shows.  Until next time Maui!
